Happy Mother's Day Weekend!

Good Afternoon,

It was so amazing to see the turnout at the 4th Graders Graphic Novel writing celebration. I can't say thank you enough for taking time out of your days to come in, and support the 4th graders as they beamed with pride putting their graphic novels on display for everyone. It was a reminder for me of how special a place NDLC is because of the families, students that us as teachers get the privilege to work alongside on this learning journey. I look forward to these last few weeks, and continuing to create more special moments for these 4th graders as they finish they elementary schooling careers here at NDLC. Lastly, I want to say Happy Mother's Day to all the amazing moms; I hope you all enjoy your weekends!

Week in Review:

Leader in Me: This week we learned to contrast valuing and accepting differences. We also learned how to use many strengths to solve a problem. Synergize and complete five-in-a-row for Family Bingo Board on Leader in Me Online!

Writing: Writers made final preparations this week to get ready for their presentations today. Thank you again for showing the support you did for all of their efforts they made during this graphic novel writing unit.

Math: To begin the week the students reviewed for their unit assessment, and it was great to see all the growth that was made from their pre assessments to their post assessments! We ended our week doing some review of multi/single digit multiplication.

Reading: Readers continued in their historical fiction books as we analyzed different characters perspectives, and how they can be drastically different from one another even when its during the same time period or setting. Also, we discussed the idea of power and how it looks, and can come in many different versions and forms. Lastly, we discussed the idea of how they can further expand their knowledge and understanding through non fiction reading and research on the events they are reading about in their historical fiction books.

Content: Students continued to explore energy!  Students constructed an explanation of how energy is stored, released, and transferred in chain reactions, such as falling dominoes. Their guiding question they had to solve was Could you knock down a building using only dominoes?
