Spring Break

Good Afternoon,

We are officially on spring break, and I hope everyone is able to take some time for themselves. The students have been working extremely hard all year, but especially these past few weeks in preparation for state testing. We were able to get things off to a great start, and the general feeling was they were not overwhelmed, but prepared which is exactly what we want to hear. They are the ones coming in daily, and putting in the hard work which has put them in a position to have success, and what we have been saying is the hay is in the barn! It was great being able to connect during conferences as well, and so many celebrations were in order for the 4th Graders because of the growth and hard work they are displaying every day!

Week in Review:

Leader in Me: This week we learned about how unique life experiences lead us to have different viewpoints. Having empathy means showing respect for different life experiences and viewpoints. As a family, Take turns responding to the prompt, "To me, the world would be a better place if more people showed empathy because…"

Writing: Writers took on the TDA for the Wisconsin Forward exam. It requires the writers to read through a passage they have never seen before, analyze it, then write a literary essay based off a prompt that is given to them. They were champions at this, and couldn't be more proud of their efforts.

Math: Mathematicians have been practicing with multiplying fractions by a whole number. We will have a unit assessment next week on our fraction unit, but the students have been doing a great job of being engaged in their practice where they are finding success in these new concepts.

Reading: Readers were putting their skills to test in both the analyzing of the TDA as well as the 3 sessions they had for science which required them to read through various scientific topics, and use various reading skills to determine the best answer that was supported in the text. Their reading stamina was put to the test, but again they were champions of testing this week.

Content: Students explored how solid rock breaks apart into smaller pieces through a process called weathering (including root-wedging and ice-wedging). Students also gathered evidence to describe how environments on Earth have changed over time. Students explored how the process of sedimentary rock formation preserves a record of those past environments.
