Marching Into Another Week

Good Afternoon,

As we head into our final week of test prep, I have been very pleased with all of the 4th graders work ethics and focus during this unit. It has be a unit that can be demanding at times, stressful, but at the end of it they will hopefully feel less anxiety and pressure heading into the Forward exam because of all the practice and effort they are putting in right now. I look forward to them all being able to showcase their knowledge on the Forward exams in the coming month.

Week in Review:

Leader in Me: This week we learned about how to balance the consideration of others’ thoughts and feelings with the courage to express our own thoughts and feelings. View this resource: Win-Win Agreement and work together to create a win-win agreement for a situation where you have a common disagreement at home.

Writing: Writers worked this week to understand what the prompt is asking them to do, and then ensuring they are writing in the correct genre of writing whether it be narrative, opinion, or informational. They are doing some incredible work, and I have been very impressed with their work ethic during the unit!

Math: Students returned to angles, with an emphasis on the fact that angles are dynamic in that they involve a turn or rotation around a fixed point. Students approximated the angles of rotation for various joints in their own bodies, including their knees, wrists, shoulders, and elbows. Then the students stood in place and made turns of specified sizes as they solve problems that involved adding angles.

Reading: Readers continued their test prep reading unit for the Wisconsin Forward test. This week we focused on nonfiction texts, and emphasized some of the test taking tips like taking your time, going back to the text, eliminating obvious wrong answers, and reading questions carefully. I have been very pleased with all of their focus and energy they are putting in on a daily basis to do their very best!

Content: Students focus shifted back to social studies with their learning about Wisconsin's history, and some of the state's unique facts. Gaining a background knowledge on all things Badger state before our trip to Madison.
