Halftime of March

Good Afternoon,

As we wrap up our Knowledge-A-Thon week, it's always a great reminder of how special NDLC is for so many reasons. One of them being the families and students that CHOOSE NDLC every year, and the support that we get for fundraising during KAT is incredible and I can't say thank you enough on behalf of all staff here. The theme this year was Superheroes, and I thought it was fitting because that is what every kid that comes through NDLC is in my eyes because they are all special and unique in their own way. I'm proud to be able to teach here at NDLC, and hope you have the same feeling of pride of having your child attend what is arguably the best of the best for elementary schools in the state!

Week in Review:

Leader in Me: This week students freshened up, and rehearsed for their student led conferences next week. It is awesome to see them take ownership of their leadership binders, and what they want to share at conferences. They have been working hard all year, and this is a great way for them to speak on their learning and growth at conferences.

Writing: Writers wrapped up their final week of test prep in writing, and are ready to take on whatever the Forward exam might throw at them. They have built up confidence in identifying what the question is asking of them, and their writing has taken steps each week building towards great scores!

Math: Mathematicians got to show off their knowledge on their unit assessment on geometry and measurement. The success criteria for this unit consisted of constructing and identifying polygons, measuring and sketching angles, and using a formula to solve for perimeter and area.

Reading: Readers concluded their test prep reading unit for the Wisconsin Forward test. They have been working hard on mastering some test tips, but in reality putting all that they have learned this year into the work of what is expected on the Forward. They are prepared, and ready to show off all that they know!

Content: This week we focused on Wisconsin government, and how it originated back in 1776 when James Madison helped write our constitution for the United States of America. We discussed the various branches of government, and the roles and work that each of them do at both a federal and state level as well as at local level.

A Look Ahead:

  • Forwards Testing Dates & Times
    • If you could try and avoid appointments, have students here during these times it would be greatly appreciated.
  • March 19th & 21st - Student led Parent/Teacher Conferences
  • March 19th & 21st - Book Fair
  • March 22nd - Early Dismissal
  • Tuesday, March 26th, 2024 - 4th Grade Field Trip to Madison
    • We are at near capacity for the bus so we are working on a seating chart to help ensure we all fit!
  • March 29th & April 1st - No School

That's all for this week!

Have a great weekend!

Mr. VW
