One Final Week of the 2023 Calendar School Year
Good Afternoon,
It's hard to believe we are heading towards our last week of school in the year 2023 next week. I believe it is important to press pause on the busyness of life, and reflect on all that has changed. This group of kids have been awesome to get to know this school year, and I hope as families you are able to recognize the hard work they put in every day while noticing the growth they have made this past calendar year. I know in the 4 short months I have spent with them their are lots of celebrations and growth, and I look forward to ending the 2023 calendar school year on a high note next week.
Week in Review:
Leader in Me: We worked on writing personal mission statements by identifying personal values and things that matter most to them! Invite your learner to teach you how to write your own personal mission statement. Consider sharing it with your learner!
Writing: Writers worked on their new literary essays that focused in on the theme and lesson that the story was teaching us as readers. They then revised to look for specific text evidence that authors used that show up in various literary devices, and their intros making generalizations about the theme before diving into their specific thesis for the essay.
Math: Mathematicians looked at decimals and fractions, and the relationships between the two of them. Also, using their knowledge of decimals and fractions to be able to plot them appropriately on a number line. We ended the week doing various math games to enhance learning concepts in preparation for the unit assessment next week.
Reading: Readers continued to learn various strategies in helping them identify the theme and lessons in the books they are reading. We keep in mind that authors teach us a lesson through what the character learns, and in turn we are able to learn that lesson and apply it to our own life!
Content: Researchers mapped and dated when original colonies were founded, as well as the building of the colonies and how they became sustainable on their own. We looked at the way the world changed across a timeline when European explorers set sail across the Atlantic, and how the world was changed forever when that happened.
A Look Ahead:
- December 15th - No School
- December 25 - January 1st No School (Students return 1/2/24)
- January 15th - No School
- January 18th - Funset Night
- January 19th - 11:30 Dismissal
That's all for this week!
Have a great weekend!
Mr. VW
