Hello December!

Good Afternoon,

It's hard to believe we have turned the page on another month of the calendar as we head into the final month of 2023. These first three months of the school year have been filled with highs and lows, days of growth, celebrations, and everything else in between. I'm excited for these next few weeks to finish this month off strong as the students returned this week rested, and ready to grow as learners and leaders. I appreciate everyone's contributions and support as we continue every day here to make it the greatest days in the history of days!

Week in Review:

Leader in Me: This week we discussed  the leadership skill of giving compliments and how genuinely noticing the contributions of others can be an Emotional Bank Account deposit. As a family, take turns giving each other compliments. Discuss how you all can notice and give compliments frequently!

Writing: Writers began a new writing unit focusing on writing literary essays. They began the week choosing a short story with their new writing partner, and from there worked to write big ideas they had formed after reading the story. At the end of the week, they decided on a thesis they wanted to prove from the story, and worked to find evidence that will best support it from the story.

Math: Mathematicians named fractional parts of the geoboard and described the parts relationships to one another. Their observations were then extended into comparing fractions with unlike numerators and denominators, and adding fractions with like denominators.

Reading: Readers began a new reading unit where we shifted back to fiction with a emphasis on details and synthesis. This first week was taking a deeper look at our characters in our books, and noticing what we tend to notice a lot, and not as much then working hard on growing big ideas on characters in our books.

Content: Researchers began a new unit in social studies where we will be studying about Colonial America and the path to Revolutionary war. This weeks concepts covered the beginning of Europeans in the Americas, and the the initial attempts of Colonies at Roanoke and Jamestown by the English.
