Fun Filled Week!
Good Afternoon,
It is always special when families are able to come into school, and see the amazing work kids are doing every single day. Today was special, and I appreciate everyone who came to experience the work that happens daily. I know the students were beaming with pride to show off the reading work that they do, and today was one of those days that made me feel proud to be a NDLC Husky! It was a great week, and today was the cap an another awesome week here in 4th Grade at NDLC.
Week in Review:
Leader in Me: Our class has been talking about the impact of proactive and reactive responses to situations. Brainstorm a list of proactive phrases that can be used by everyone at home!
Writing: Writers worked on selecting just right evidence to support their thesis for literary essays. They then put it all together in their initial drafts of their writing. We talked about how we need to search for deeper meanings, and lessons in stories to lift the level of our thesis in our literary essays.
Math: This week, the base ten mat was assigned a value of 1. Students determined that the strip and the unit are worth 1/10 and 1/100 respectively, and were introduced to the decimal notation for these fractions. The base ten pieces serve as a visual anchor as students compared decimal numbers and investigated the relationship between tenths and hundredths.
Reading: Readers continued their thinking work developing deeper ideas on characters noticing all the difference changes and how different aspects of stories can reveal things about our characters. We ended the week learning some strategies that can help us when developing and workings towards identifying the themes in our stories.
Content: Researchers learned about the regions of the 13 original colonies, as well as mapping out the colonies to understand where significant events took place in Colonial America. Concepts talked about this week was when Boston, New York, and Philadelphia were founded as well as Pequot War, King Philips War, and Bacon's Rebellion.
