Hello November!

Good Afternoon,

As we embark on another month of the school year, I am really proud of the progress that has been made the first two months. Everyone has settled into routines, and are setting goals daily to help lift the level of their learning. Every single day each kid is coming in ready to give their best effort and have a positive attitude, and that starts at home so I appreciate everything that is happening at home to support your child in their learning journey. I look forward to another great month ahead full of growth academically and socially!

Week in Review:

Leader in Me: This week we learned about Wildly Important Goals (WIGs) and how to take steps to achieve our goals! Invite your learner to share their Wildly Important Goal (WIG) with you. Encourage your learner to teach you how to set a WIG.

Writing: Writers put together their personal essays, and made sure the content of the essay was worth of the structure to 'keep it up right'. We focused on the evidence within our essays is what makes it convincing as well as trying to get our audience to care about our topic right away in our intro, and leaving them with a final thought in our conclusion.

Math: We looked into another multiplication strategy, and reviewed the 9 different strategies we have talked over so far this unit. As mathematicians it is important to be flexible thinkers, and this allows us to do so. We ended our week exploring division, and how we can have multiple strategies, and choosing one that is going to work best for us.

Reading: Readers are working hard with nonfiction texts, and becoming experts of the skills it requires of us as readers. We ended our week getting set up in research clubs to take our nonfiction skills into action, and become expert on different extreme weathers or natural disasters topics.

Content: Students discovered the basics of how their eyes work, and figured out some of the causes of vision problems. In the activity, students developed a working model of a human eye. They used a magnifying lens as a model of the cornea to explore how the structure of this lens is related to the function of our eyes.

A Look Ahead:

  • November 1st-21st - District Wide Food Drive
  • November 10th - Red/White/Blue Day
  • November 9th - Simple Simon Pick up
  • November 14th & 16th - Conferences
  • November 17th - Early Dismissal
  • November 22nd-24th - No School

That's all for this week!

Have a great weekend!

Mr. VW
