Great Week at NDLC!

Good Afternoon,

It was such an awesome week being able to connect with everyone for conferences. The students were very proud, and having them be a part of the conferences sharing their learning and growth they are accomplishing daily made for special nights. I am grateful for everyone's support, and it has been a very strong start to the school year! I look forward to seeing the continued growth the students will achieve, and having a strong foundation and connection between home and school is a major factor in that so I am very thankful for all you do!

Week in Review:

Leader in Me: This week we learned what it means to be an effective accountability partner. They also practiced having accountability partner sessions. Discuss these questions together:

  • What does it mean to be accountable?
  • How will you be a good accountability partner?
  • How will accountability partner sessions help you meet your goals?

Writing: Writers finished their persuasive essays, and was very impressed with the amount of persuasion they had in their writing! They worked hard on getting structure down, and making sure that they have an essay filled with strong reasons and evidence to support their thesis.

Math: We began our new unit of fractions and decimals this week beginning first with a pre assessment. Then we talked about fair shares, fractions and mixed numbers, and then ended the week thinking of fractions with the visual model of an egg carton!

Reading: Readers are researching on their second extreme weather/natural disaster topic, and they ended the week putting that knowledge into a 'Which is Worse?' book with their group members. They are processing their research, and working on coming up with their own ideas on the information.

Content: Students explored the brain’s role in receiving information from the senses, processing that information, and controlling the muscles to enable movement. In the activity, Think Fast!, students tested their reflexes with two very quick experiments and one more involved activity. They learned about how we process information in our brains and then respond to that information in different ways.

A Look Ahead:

  • November 22nd-24th - No School
  • Recorders are due back to school Tuesday, November 28th for their next belt testing day
  • December 5th - Kaukauna Holiday Parade
  • December 8th - CafĂ© Krueger Order Pickup 2:30-5:30 Room 81
  • December 25 - January 1st No School (Students return 1/2/24)

That's all for this week!

Have a great weekend!

Mr. VW
