Full Steam Ahead into November

Good Afternoon,

It was another awesome week, and the students earning their celebration yesterday was awesome because they saw how if they work hard towards something they can reap the rewards which is exactly the kind of learners and leaders we want. The students have been working hard daily in all areas, and I am really proud of the group coming together supporting each other, and pushing each other daily to reach their goals. I am excited to see everyone next week for conferences, and share all the good things that are happening on a daily basis in 4th grade!

Week in Review:

Leader in Me: We put our WIGs, lead measures, scoreboards, and accountability partners to paper. The students know have an understanding of what is their goal, how they are going to work towards it and by when, how they will celebrate, and who is going to hold them accountable. Check in with your child, and ask them about the process!

Writing: Writers finished up their personal essays, and shifted to persuasive essays developing a thesis that they want to try and convince others to believe in. We noticed the same strategies of writing personal essays can be used for persuasive essays, and I am excited to see all the change they will make with the power of their writing.

Math: Mathematicians put their knowledge on display in their unit assessments, and it was awesome to see the growth made by everyone. When we begin a unit, we take a unit assessment, and seeing where they are now on the understanding on those same concepts is a reason to be proud and celebrate for each of them.

Reading: Readers put their expertise on display by teaching 3rd graders about the extreme weather topics they have been researching on all week. They worked hard all week reading up a storm on their topics within their groups, and being able to put that new knowledge into action was important.

Content: Students researched further into the workings of the eye, exploring the function of their iris and pupil. In the activity, Pupil Card, students added a smaller pupil to the eye model that they created in the previous lesson. Then they observed how the changing size of the pupil controls how much light enters the eye.

A Look Ahead:

  • November 1st-21st - District Wide Food Drive
  • November 14th & 16th - Conferences
  • Recorders are due back to school next Wednesday, November 15th for their 1st belt testing day
  • November 17th - Early Dismissal
  • November 22nd-24th - No School

That's all for this week!

Have a great weekend!
