Long Weekend Ahead!

Good Afternoon,

As students head off into a much deserved break, it is important to reflect on the growth and effort put in the past two months. I am proud of the growth socially of the class coming together to create a classroom that is welcoming, and supportive of everyone. Academically, students are pushing themselves daily with great effort and collaboration to grow in all areas. I hope everyone takes time rest, sharpen the saw, and be ready for another stretch coming up as we look forward to November.

Week in Review:

Leader in Me: This past week we reviewed expectations we have in all areas of our school. We did a check in on how we feel we have done following these expectations the first two months of the school year, and identified areas where we can improve.

Writing: Writers started to 'build' their essay with the evidence they are going to use to support each of their reasons. We talked about how coming up with the best evidence will support the reasons, and then that will help support the thesis.

Math: Mathematicians worked through various multi digit multiplication problems with their math partners, and we had a math forum to discuss what strategies people in the classroom are using. This was a whole class conversation so everyone could learn from each other, and see the different strategies deciding which one's they like the best.

Reading: Readers are reading nonfiction books they are interested in, and are constantly thinking as they take in new information about 'what is the text trying to teach me?' With this thinking in mind, it helps us be able to identify what is the main idea of the text.

Content: This week students discovered the basics of how their eyes work, and figured out some of the causes of vision problems.

A Look Ahead:

  • No School - October 26th and 27th
  • October 31st - Wear Orange/Black/Favorite Fall Color Day
  • November 1st-21st - District Wide Food Drive
  • November 8th - Veteran's Day Concert 6:00 P.M.
  • November 9th - Simple Simon Pick up
  • November 14th & 16th - Conferences
  • November 17th - Early Dismissal
  • November 22nd-24th - No School

That's all for this week!

Have a great weekend!

Mr. VW
