Say Do You Remember...That Week in September

Good Afternoon,

The days keep rolling by, and when you look up at the calendar it's hard to believe that next week is already the last week in September. We are 14 days into the school year already, and students have seemingly settled into the routines of the school year. I have been impressed with the leaders we have in the classroom not only setting the example for their peers, but the younger Huskies here at NDLC. The 4th graders are working hard everyday, so I hope they enjoy the time away from school to sharpen their saw so that they can come to school ready to be the best version of themselves.

Week in Review:

Leader in Me: This week, we learned about paradigms. Paradigms, or our mental map, can help us deal with difficult situations. View this resource to learn more about Leader in Me paradigms and ways to engage your family!

Writing: Writers wrote a flash draft of one of their original ideas from the previous week, and then spent the week taking that piece of writing through the writing process. They worked on revising the heart of their stories, stretching parts out, and then ended the week learning the purpose of commas when editing their own writing.

Math: This week mathematicians learned about prime and composite numbers as well as reviewing multiplication strategies. We are working with different kinds of multiplication strategies through work places (math games). We learned a new work place each day this week, and its an engaging way for students to be practicing math in a game form with partners!

Reading: Readers worked on strategies to help grow ideas about characters in their books. We looked at patterns for our characters, noticing changes, and asking ourselves why they are acting in a certain way. Readers also pay attention to the characters wants and desires, and notice any obstacles in their way. Lastly, using authors craft of any repeated words or images to help us form ideas!

Content: Researchers learned about the first people of Wisconsin, the Paleo people. We also studied about mammoths, mastodons, inventions of the earliest people in Wisconsin, and where the sites are located in Wisconsin.

A Look Ahead:

  • Backpack Buddies Collection: For the week of 9/25-10/2 we will be collecting items for St. Joseph's Food Pantry. If you would like to bring in items we are collecting granola bars, macaroni and cheese, boxes of oatmeal in individual packets, or cans or packets of tuna or chicken.
  • September 28th - Family Night at Badger Sports Park
  • September 29th - No School
  • Picture RE-TAKE day is October 10th
Have a great weekend!

Mr. VW
