Full Week in the Books

Good Afternoon,

We ended our first week with a whole school celebration outside having some popsicles, and the weather couldn't have been more perfect. The kids deserved it with all the hard work they have been putting in these first couple of weeks. Getting back into routines can be tricky and tiring, but I am proud of the students for persevering, and how they seem to be settling into a little groove to start the school year. I am excited for this group of 4th graders to see how much they all can grow both academically, socially, and as leaders this year because they have been off to great start!

Week in Review:

Leader in Me: We are excited to share the 7 Habits with our family members and caregivers. Try this activity as a family: Identify people in your family or community who are courageous. As we learn about the habits, We invite you to use the Habit Homework Menu and challenge your family to engage in the activities!

Writing: Writers were drafting out narrative story ideas all week, and were working on bringing their storytelling voice to life in their writing. It can be difficult to write personal narratives, and come up with ideas, but the amount of writing going on has been amazing to see this early in the year!

Math: After our i-Ready, we finished the week with a math forum and finding factors of numbers 1-36. The math talk in the room has been amazing, and the forum allows us to learn from each other sharing out strategies that work for us on problems.

Reading: We continued to build our classroom reading culture of how we want it to look and sound, but to end the week we talked about how we want to build on some of last years thinking work. We began to talk about how we can go from retelling to synthesizing our reading to do some higher level thinking work as 4th graders.

Content: Our social studies unit began with studying maps and timelines of the earliest people who lived in Wisconsin. Understanding that people have been around for thousands of years was the groundwork to help us gain that understanding of who we are today.

A Look Ahead:

  • NDLC Merch will be for sale September 12th-21st
  • Backpack Buddies Collection: For the week of 9/25-10/2 we will be collecting items for St. Joseph's Food Pantry. If you would like to bring in items we are collecting granola bars, macaroni and cheese, boxes of oatmeal in individual packets, or cans or packets of tuna or chicken.
  • September 28th - Family Night at Badger Sports Park
  • September 29th - No School
  • Picture RE-TAKE day is October 10th

Have a great weekend!

Mr. VW
