What a Beautiful Week

Good Afternoon,

The weather outside made for a great week for everyone to enjoy, and brought another energy to each day as we wrap yet another week in this school year. A highlight for the week was the picnic lunch that students earned, and the part I enjoyed the most was seeing how connected all of them were. All of them just enjoying the moment they were in, laughing, and just being genuinely happy to all be together and enjoy their celebration together. It was a special day, and looking forward to trying to create as much of those moments as we can in these final few weeks.

Week in Review:

Leader in Me: This week, we learned about careers that match our strengths and talents. View this resource: Service Learning and the 7 Habits and consider ways your family could contribute to the community.

Writing: Writers began a independent realistic fiction project where they are taking all the of the strategies they have learned, and skills they have acquired through the writing process to apply it to their new projects.

Math: Mathematicians were discovering how to compare decimals to the hundredths, and decimals greater than 1. Students were also learning about decimals greater than 1 as well in preparation for our unit assessment next week.

Reading: Readers were noticing how power can come in many forms, and noticed thematic connections across the texts in their historical fiction book clubs. They ended the week beginning their historical fiction projects where they are combining all the lessons they have learned with the different social issues that have come up in the texts to display how it has affected them to create change in their own lives and future.

Content: Students analyzed the advantages and disadvantages of different sources of energy, including burnable fuels and alternative (renewable) energies. Students obtained and combined information about wind energy, solar energy, and water energy. They used this information to determine the best alternative energy sources for a town called Boulderville.

A Look Ahead:

  • End of Year Events Schedule
  • Family Night - Tuesday, May 16th
  • Community Clothes Closet Pick Up - Tuesday, May 16⋅3:30 – 6:00pm

Enjoy the Weekend,

Mr. VW
