Moving into March

Good Afternoon,

As we are a couple weeks into our test prep units, I want to address just how hard every single student is working daily. The test anxiety is a real thing for students because they all want to do so well. We had a whole class conversation today about how they have been preparing for these types of tests all year, and all of their years of school. They need to trust and believe in themselves, and know the hard work and effort they are putting in daily is putting them in a position to have great success when test day comes! If we can all continue to encourage, build up, and be empathetic knowing they are doing rigorous work during the day because we want them to come into testing knowing they can accomplish amazing things!

Week in Review:

Leader in Me: Our class talked about celebrating differences. Ask your child, “Why are different ideas helpful when working on a team?”

Writing: Writers worked to identify details from a passage they had read to then apply directly to a prompt given to them to answer it correctly. Writers were planning their answers out, and going through the process of making sure we understand what the question is asking us to do, make a plan for each paragraph, and finally rereading to find the exact text evidence.

Math: Mathematicians review for their unit assessment which was taken over the course of the final two days this week. The scores were fantastic, and it was great to see all of their hard work come to fruition with such great success for all of them!

Reading: Readers have been reading through various narrative passages as well as narrative nonfiction passages to identify how to effectively build a strong comprehension before we are given any questions about it to answer. Readers have also been working on building up their stamina during independent reading as well as continuing to push their thinking while they are reading independently.

Content: We transitioned to a new science topic of studying the birth of rocks. Students explored the past and present pattern of where volcanoes exist on the earth. Students plotted volcano locations on a world map and looked for patterns.

A Look Ahead:

  • No School Monday, March 13th
  • Wear Green Day Friday, March 17th
  • Madison Field Trip, Wednesday March 22nd
That's all for this week! Hope everyone enjoys the weekend!

Mr. VW
