Heading into Final March Week

Good Afternoon,

Next week the 4th Graders begin their spring Wisconsin Forward testing. They have been preparing for these since they first started school, and they are ready. The 4th Graders have been working extremely hard all year, and in this past test prep unit that I am extremely confident in every single one of them. To put it simply, the hay is in the barn, which means the hardest work has been completed in preparation for something. They are prepared, and I couldn't be more excited for them to be able to highlight and show off their knowledge during testing.  

Week in Review: 

Leader in Me: Our class talked about humility. Ask your child, “Why is it important for leaders to have humility?” 

Writing: Writers practiced through analyzing a text, and writing a text dependent analysis of that passage. We went through the process of what it will be like on testing day, so they were able to get a live look at what it will be like, and what will be asked of them.

Math: Mathematicians have continued their fraction learning this week with an emphasis on Mixed numbers and fractions greater than one. They added and subtracted fractions and mixed numbers, and have been making great strides in understanding vocabulary and concepts!

Reading: Readers have been working with informational texts, and building an understanding of what some test questions might ask them in relation to that genre. I have been really impressed with their ability to transfer their learning from across the school to apply it to their test taking strategies.

Content: Students investigated how differences in lava types explain differences in the shape and eruption patterns among volcanoes. They figured out why volcanoes have different shapes and how the type of lava explains why some volcanoes explode.

Good Afternoon, As we launch into a brand new school year I wanted to say it was a great week getting to know all of the students a little bit better every single day. It is a very fun and outgoing group, and I am excited to see all that the students accomplish and grow this year both academically and socially. Say Do You Remember...That Week in September

Good Afternoon, The days keep rolling by, and when you look up at the calendar it's hard to believe that next week is already the last week in September. We are 14 days into the school year already, and students have seemingly settled into the routines of the school year. I have been impressed with the leaders we have in the classroom not only setting the example for their peers, but the younger Huskies here at NDLC. The 4th graders are working hard everyday, so I hope they enjoy the time away from school to sharpen their saw so that they can come to school ready to be the best version of themselves. Halftime of April!

Good Afternoon, This week the students finished up yet another round of forward testing with just the math sessions remaining next week. I have been proud of their continued efforts as testing can take a lot of time and energy, but remaining consistent with their effort is imperative. For them, finding the motivation to continue to be their best self, being kind, safe, and respectful as we head towards the end of the school year because as the weather gets better it can get harder to want to keep that energy high in the classroom as well. I'm excited for them to finish the school year strong, and be proud of all the growth they have made.
