Happy St. Patrick's Day!

 Good Afternoon,

Another week has flown by, and it doesn't appear to be slowing down anytime soon. We stopped to do some reflecting this week as learners to recognize the learning they are accomplishing daily. It's important to pause, and reflect within the journey and learning process because otherwise it can just get overlooked just how far each one of them have come in their learning journey. I'm proud of the growth they have made, and the daily efforts and energy they continue to bring daily!

Week in Review:

Leader in Me: Our class talked about teamwork. Ask your child, “What is the value of sharing ideas when working on a team?”

Writing: Writers have been working hard this week on putting all of their writing work together to best answer the prompt that the test makers are asking. They are using their writing skills from units across the year to help prepare them for what the test makers will be looking for. It was great to see them revising work to lift the level of their writing to 'level up' on the scoresheet!

Math: Our focus in math transitioned to new concepts, with this week focusing on fractions. We are building our understanding of fractions, fractions that add to one, as well as adding and subtracting fractions with common denominators.

Reading: Readers focused on reading narrative nonfiction passages this week, and how to best analyze this genre when asked to read it during testing. Understanding that we have to use both our fiction and nonfiction reading skills in this genre, while also reinforcing the strategies to try and identify the best answers on test questions!

Content: Researchers mapped volcanoes, plotting volcano locations on a world map and looked for patterns. Students analyzed these maps to discover that volcanoes form a “Ring of Fire” around the Pacific Ocean!

Mr. VW
