Halfway through February

 Good Afternoon,

Hope everyone was able to spend time with people they love the most in their lives this past week during Valentine's Day as I know the 4th Graders greatly enjoyed their celebration, and exchanging of Valentine's. It was a great time to pause in the midst of hard work, new learning, and learning process of the school year to just enjoy time together. More and more I find myself really valuing the time we get together each day, knowing that the days are winding down for all of us together here in 4th Grade so remembering to always make the most out of each and every day.

Week in Review:

Leader in Me: Our class talked about listening with your eyes, ears and heart. Ask your child, “Why is listening to others important?”

Writing: Writers began working in their new unit of writing which is literary essays writing. This is an excellent unit where it allows writers to use their voices and opinions on what they see and think about the texts they are reading. It is also great preparation for the kind of writing they will be asked to do for the Forward test which is right around the corner.

Math: Mathematicians learned all things triangles whether that be the different angles that can be found in them or how we can also classify triangles based off of their sides. They also got the opportunity to practice composing and decomposing angles with their math partners to help solidify the concepts of angles and measurements.

Reading: Readers were investigating power in their books this week. They realized this is another form of thinking they can do in their reading that will not only help them as readers, but also in their every day life. We discussed concepts related to power such as who seems to make the rules, who has it and doesn't, power shifting, and lastly the different kinds of power there are around us everyday in our books and lives.

Content: Researchers spent this past week investigating and researching the French and Indian War. We discussed how the early 1700's were relatively quiet in Colonial America until the beginning of the French and Indian War which was in 1754.

A Look Ahead:
