Celebrate NDLC Week!

 Good Evening,

Hope everyone had an enjoyable weekend as we head into a special week here at NDLC. It's a celebration of all things that makes NDLC a place that we all love, and are proud to be a part of as a school. The kids and families are a big part of what makes this place special, so my hope is this week everyone can have great Husky Pride and enjoy the various activities and dress up days we have planned.

Week in Review:

Leader in Me: We are focusing on habit 4 this month which all about think win-win. Our class talked about when "no deal" is the best option. Ask your child, "What does no deal mean?"

Writing: Writers are working hard on elaborating in their informational books, and making sure each chapter is teaching exactly what they would want to have if they were reading their books. Writers are putting an emphasis on structure in each of their chapters which correlates to the work they are doing in reading trying to identify those structures.

Math: Our new unit began in measurement with a focus on concepts relating to metric units of measure, liquid volume, mass, and time. With these concepts, we are exploring conversions and relating the concepts to word problems.

Reading: Readers are working with nonfiction texts trying to master a particular set of skills relating to nonfiction reading. Not only do we want to read nonfiction in order to learn about topics we are interested in, but we want to be able to identify main ideas as well as noticing the structure the text is written in as well.

i-Ready: We completed our winter i-Ready testing this past week. It is important to keep in mind this is a one day snap shot, and our mid year look into where students are at. This allows us to see any gaps, and we can continue to best meet the needs of all students when combined with what we are seeing in the classroom everyday. These reports will be sent home this week.

A Look Ahead:

  • Dress Up Days
  • 1/17 Tuesday- PJ/Comfy day (Students can bring a blanket and stuffie, as they call it)
  • 1/18 Wednesday- BE YOU- wear your favorite outfit
  • 1/19 Thursday- Purple/NDLC Wear Day
  • 1/20 Friday- Dress Like a Leader
  • Early Dismissal Friday, 1/20
  • MARK YOUR CALENDARS - MARCH 22nd will be our field trip to MADISON. If you are interested in chaperoning this field trip, feel free to reach out to me. More details will be coming as we get closer, but I wanted to get you the date ASAP as we just secured our date.
Let's make it a great week!

Mr. VW
