November Changes

Good Afternoon,

As we wrap up yet another week of learning I feel excited and proud because the 4th graders have been absolute Rockstar's in the classroom. They are taking great pride in the learning wanting to do their best daily, understanding where they are at, and then taking the necessary steps to continue to push themselves to grow. It's a great group of students, and I am extremely thankful for all of them, and that starts with your support of them at home so thank you for raising such great kids because it's made my job as their teacher a tremendous joy.

Week in Review:

Leader in Me: Our class talked about principles like honesty, fairness, kindness, and responsibility. Ask your child, "Which principles matter most to you?"

Writing: Writers began their new unit on personal/persuasive essay writing with an initial boot camp about the structure of an essay. The rest of the week was spent working on generating essay entries, and trying to master the skill of freewriting which was trying to write long and strong about a single idea pushing themselves to say more using various prompts.

Math: Mathematicians have been excellent in their daily effort to try and grasp and build their confidence in the concepts being introduced to them. This week we worked with multiplying single digit by two digit numbers, and then ended with the multiplication of one digit by three digit concepts.

Reading: Readers have updated their goals on character work and theme to see what level their thinking work is at. This week we worked on strategies to help us get even better at growing big ideas while we read to help us level up on the progression and scoreboards of our learning.

Content: With a focus question in science of 'why do your biceps bulge?' students discovered the mechanism by which their muscles control their bones to move their bodies.

A Look Ahead:

That's all for this week!

Enjoy the weekend!

Mr. VW
