Last Full School Week of October is Over?!?

Good Afternoon,

This week was another week filled with learning and growth, and it's hard to believe that we have finished our last full week of school in October. 4th Grade year at NDLC is a special year so making sure to enjoy every day along this learning journey is especially important. I am thankful for the group of students we have, and the supportive families as these first couple of months of school have been fantastic, and I'm looking forward to continued growth, success, and memories along the journey.

Week in Review:

Leader in Me: Our class talked about taking initiative. Ask your child, “How can you take initiative?”

Writing: Writers completed their second realistic fiction story this past week with an eye on using everything we know about strong narrative writing to make it the best it can be. We used a comparison between a clean shoe and a dirty shoe, where both will get noticed on whether it is taken care of or not, similar to revising and editing where a reader will notice if they took care of the details to make it the best version of writing.

Math: Mathematicians had worked this week on multiplying one digit numbers by two digit numbers. We worked through strategies for us to be able to have confidence solving these problems in either just number form or in a word problem. They worked very hard with this new concept, and I am very proud of their hard work this week.

Reading: Readers are wrapping up their mini book club unit where they are pushing their interpretations of stories to be towards a 4th grade level interpretation. Through book club conversations, and jotting about their thinking using various thought prompts readers are lifting the level of their thinking and understandings of the books they are reading.

Content: Researchers completed their initial learning of early Wisconsin history, and are excited for their educational experience of hiking along the Ice Age Trail next Tuesday!

A Look Ahead:

  • Red Ribbon Week is next week. Here are the dress up days for the week:
    • Monday- Wear your favorite sweats/team apparel
    • Tuesday- Wear neon colors and sunglasses
    • Wednesday- Wear Kaukauna Ghost gear or black and orange
  • 4th Grade Field Trip to Point Beach State Forest on Tuesday, October 25th.
    • Cold lunches for those not signed up for Lunch 2 Go from school. Also, athletic wear and appropriate outside wear for the weather conditions. A gym string bag may be a good thing for students to bring that day for their lunches/water bottles. I received a generous donation from a donor for the class that wanted to supply kids with snacks/drinks to have energy for their hike which I will be giving out before/during the hike.
  • NDLC Field Trip to PAC, Wednesday October 26th to see the play Grace for President
  • No School for students October 27th and 28th
That's all for this week! Please let me know if you have any questions leading up to our field trip on Tuesday!

Have a great weekend,

Mr. VW
