Back in the School Groove

Good Afternoon,

The students have adjusted well back into routines as this has been personally one of the best back to school starts as an educator because of the amazing group of students I am lucky to have this school year. The 4th graders battled through some long, hot afternoon in the classroom to end the week as summer seems to be holding on for as long as it can outside. They have been filled with excitement daily, and I am excited to watch this group make great growth on their learning journey this school year.

Week in Review

Leader in Me: Students worked together to construct their own class mission statement that they will work to live by daily, and what they want their class to be remembered by this school year. Leadership applications were distributed that students started to apply for here in the classroom.

Writing: Writers were working hard this week writing 3 stories this week alone about moments in their life. Thursday was a day where they were able to pause as writers, and use checklists and mentor texts to set goals for themselves as writers in this first unit. They are working now to implement those goals into their writing daily.

Math: Mathematicians worked to come up with classroom norms for math talk while also working through some different math situations where they had to estimate for various real life scenarios.

Reading: Readers this week were learning how to read intensely to grow ideas, and ended this week with some goal setting work to help guide them daily to continue to grow as readers.

A Look Ahead:

  • Fall i-Ready will be taking place next week for reading and math
  • NDLC Souper Bowl will be during the week of September 19th-23rd
  • NDLC Parent/Family Night with a Literacy Focus, Monday the 19th at 5:30
  • NDLC FAMILY Night @ Badger Sports Park Thursday, September 29th at 4:00
That's all for this week, hope everyone has a great weekend!

Mr. VW
